Although the University met with us earlier in the month (information on this meeting to follow) they did not offer anything to prevent further strike days so please prepare to take action on Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd October. We must keep up the level of participation in the upcoming strike days and on our picket lines to show the University that enough is enough, we are worth more and cannot afford less.
We will be picketing each campus again, and really hope you will come out and support the picket lines, you don’t need to be on an ‘official picket’ and talk to people crossing the line, you can come along and wave a flag or hold a placard to support the action. The temperature has definitely dropped a little, so do layer up! There will be hot drinks and music and it’s a great chance to meet members from all over the University. You can sign up for a picket line here
Our UCU (Universities College Union) colleagues are taking strike action on Monday 25th and Tuesday 26th September. None of us like to cross another union’s picket line, so if you are on campus on these dates, please show your support to the pickets. Stop at the picket lines and talk to them about their action, maybe drop off some snacks and if you are able to, consider taking out some hot drinks to them.
Also, as soon as you have the payslip that shows your strike deduction, you can claim for National Strike Pay using this form: Strike-Pay-Branch-Hardship-Fund-Application-Form-September-2023 (link will download the Word file to your PC) and also submit an application for the Branch Hardship Fund.
If you have queries about the strikes and picketing do take a look at the FAQs. We very much look forward to seeing you in October.
Yours in Solidarity,
Daisy Moss (she/her) – Assistant Branch Secretary -UWE UNISON
