Since we last took industrial action, we have finally started to make some meaningful progress with the University. The next two weeks will be crucial to continue this momentum.
- We are calling on all of our members in the University to take strike action for all of next week (Monday 4 to Friday 8 December inclusive). UNISON’s Industrial Action Committee are confident with us winning key concessions from UWE and have agreed to pay up to £70 a day strike pay so most members taking part will face little to no financial impact to having a week off work (strike pay isn’t taxable so you can claim against your post tax salary).
Since our last strike days, we’ve made some progress on two big demands from our 8 point plan:
- UWE have agreed to a working group on introducing a 35 hour working week (the first of these is on Wednesday)
- UWE have reinstated bi-annual meetings between the unions and the chair of the board of governors. The first of these is happening on the 7th December.
We need all our members to step up and support the action at this crucial moment for the future of UWE. We are going to focus our picketing on three days, Monday 4, Tuesday 5 and Thursday 7 December. The remainder of the week is yours to focus on taking a rest, focus on your wellbeing or enjoying some shopping ahead of the festive season.
If you have any queries in relation to strike pay or why the next two weeks are so crucial, please do get in touch with us.
We look forward to seeing you over the coming days
Yours in solidarity
Christian and Tom
P.S. Apologies for the late notice – our regional organiser was unwell last wee as so the branch only had confirmation late on Friday.
